Angelina's 24hrs Web Diary

7:45 - 8:00 Wake up time

Alarm clock beeps. My mobile phone alarm follows in 15min. If I had a radio I would just play the Radio. I don't have the habit of turning on the TV. TV doesn't keep me company. I need music in the mornings to get me going.
Lately I try to force myself to turn on the TV in order to hear some news but if there's no SBS, there's no real News unfortunately. All I'm interested is the weather forecast.
This morning I had Channel Nine's The Morning Show in the background. It's all about celebrities. Oprah is coming!

I turn on my notebook and check my emails with Gmail. If I don't have much time or I'm running late I do that via my iPod Touch while making my coffee.

I work in retail so sometimes I need to go in another shop and help out. In order to ride with my motorcycle, I have to look for the shop location on my company web site http://www.ojay.com.au/ and use Google Maps http://maps.google.com.au/ to find my fastest way how to get there.

Today I'm riding to DFO Homebush. It's easy to get there.

I quickly check my account statement via Internet banking with St.George Bank https://ibanking.stgeorge.com.au/InternetBanking/welcome.jsp.

I'm not sure if the last three actions are considered as Web Media.

I quickly skim through some headlines in the news online: The Sydney Morning Herald http://www.smh.com.au/, Spiegel International http://www.spiegel.de/international/ and SBS World News http://www.sbs.com.au/news/. I used to check some of the Macedonian news online but lately I don't. I feel so isolated.

9:10-9:50 Riding to work.

So much traffic! I see George Clooney on a small billboard advertising Nespresso. I remember I saw the advert with him and John Malkovich on the TV this morning.

10:00-18:00 Work time

At work there is not many web media content. I do not have Internet access therefore I only use the work email - MS Office Outlook to communicate with other stores and Head Office.

On my lunch break I check my cheap simple $50 Nokia mobile device for any missed calls or text messages. I make two calls to my friend and book service check for my motorcycle. I reply to text message to my friend.

104FM is on air. Commercial music. Three songs are playing over and over again. Rhianna, Gay Sebastian and some other.

Hamish & Andy show. http://www.2dayfm.com.au/shows/hamishandandy. They make me laugh.

18:05-18:25 Riding back home

Being in the traffic jam on Paramatta Road, I hear different music and radio stations from the cars. Motorcycle riders don't have the commodity to listen to music.

18:30 Home time

I glue myself on my notebook. Study time. I'm accessing Curtin Oasis page and Blackboard. I access Curtin Library web site to print out the readings material for the week.

I have my Gmail and couple other websites always open. I chat with my friends with Google Talk. I write an email to my friend. I open my emals: Merriam-Webster Word of the day –

Alterity.

noun

:

otherness; specifically : the quality or state of being radically alien to the conscious self or a particular cultural orientation

What a great word!

I'm not working on an assignment so I log on Skype and MSN Messenger.
That is my online social contact which I mainly use to communicate with my dear family and friends back in Macedonia.

I'm having a Video Call with my friend. She is planing to visit me in Sydney so we can't stop talking what we are going to do when she comes and all the places I'll take her.

My browser, Mozilla Firefox has OK Cupid toolbar to notify me if there's a message or someone is checking my profile. I see an envelope. It's my OK Cupid friend from Canberra. I read and reply. http://www.okcupid.com/.

No phone calls, no text - what a peaceful life.

I check ABC Classic FM http://www.abc.net.au/classic/audio/. I'm checking latest podcasts if the recent Gershwin's 'Rapsody in Blue' symphony orchestra concert in the Sydney Opera was published.

I plug in my iPod Touch in to my Logitec speakers and listen to 'Blues in Orbit' by Duke Elington. How I wish I was living in the 20s in America.

20:00 Dinner time

I have to eat something. While preparing my dinner I turn on the TV to see if I can hear any news about WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange. I see advert about the new season of Desperate Housewifes. I browse through the channels. Nothing interesting. I wish I had recording of the readings for the course material so I can listen while preparing my meal.

Next on 'No Reservation' with Catherine Zeta-Jones. I prefer it's original but I stayed and watched the remake. A film of 90min is spread in 120min just because of all those adverts. There's no pleasure of watching a film that way.

I go back in my room and browse latest films on The Internet Movie Database. Whichever I like, I try and search on IsoHunt http://isohunt.com/ in order to download them with Vuze. I am a heavy music and film down-loader.

I read an interesting article on Spiegel International website.

Midnight time. Bedtime.
I wrap up my conversations with my friends on Google Talk. Switch off my lamp.

Summary:

Two hours of TV which includes Morning show and a film.

Eight hours of commercial radio.

Five hours of my music.

Fifteen minutes of emails.

Few hours of Google talk and less on Skype.

Half an hour of News online.
